What The Papers Said ......

At a Branch level, I am a past Chair and past Secretary; I have been a branch delegate to the GMC & GMC Executive at constituency level for many years, where I was the  CLP Treasurer until this year. I was also the Chair of the Euro Constituency at the time of its dissolution. I was the election Agent in the 1999 Local Government elections.

I have been an elected Member of Porthcawl Town Council since 1995, an elected Member of Bridgend County Borough Council since 1999, where I have held the posts of Labour Group Chief Whip and Chair of Audit Committee, and Chair of  Education & Leisure Scrutiny Committee.  I am currently Cabinet Member for Children & Young People for Bridgend.

I was also Election Agent for Madeleine Moon MP in her successful General Election 2005 campaign. I was selected as a Regional List candidate in the 2007 elections to the Welsh Assembly, and was selected as the Parliamentary candidate for the Vale of Glamorgan in the 2010 General Election.

In a voluntary capacity, I was the initiator, bid-writer and project manager of a Youth Activity Centre under the auspices of Porthcawl Town Council. I was the initiator of the Twinning between Porthcawl and a town in the Loire Valley, France, and I have been involved in Council meetings both in the town and region there.

I have been actively involved in preparing campaigning materials, including election manifestos, over a number of years. I have regularly delivered leaflets, canvassed opinion on the doorstep, and been involved in street stalls & events, and I carry out Street Surgeries with my MP.  During the General Election 2005, I was Election Agent for Madeleine Moon’s successful campaign. I organised the calendar of events, rotas for the Campaign Office, telephone canvassing and transport for voters on election day. I arranged campaign meetings, and managed all the accounts successfully. During the 2010 General Election, I ran a positive and energtic campaign in the Vale of Glamorgan, and managed to maintain the constituency's status as a marginal seat.

I have represented the people of Porthcawl East Central Ward on Porthcawl Town Council since 1995, and on Bridgend County Borough Council (BCBC) since 1999.  This is a deprived area of the town., and I have successfully campaigned for facilities and resources for the area. I have held surgeries, distributed newsletters, and made myself available to residents.  Through BCBC, I also represent all the residents of the County Borough, and I make strong representations, both verbal and written, in their interests.  I keep people informed of the progress of their issue, by writing to them by telephone, and via surgeries and ‘PACT’ meetings (Partnership And Communities Together). And through BCBC and Porthcawl Town Council, I represent the Labour Party and its policies and beliefs. I lose no opportunity to put these views forward.
